How will the advancement of blockchain / cryptocurrency games improve blockchain adoption? Games offer at least 6 important connections between technology and the mass adoption of blockchain in society.
My kids are getting to the age where they love video games and they will gravitate toward them whenever humanly possible. In addition, I have begun to notice that there are some really important connections happening between video games and the mass adoption of blockchain technology. With this in mind, I began allowing my kids to play blockchain and cryptocurrency games as a way for me to do research for this blog. Here is what I found... Here are 6 Reasons Crypto and Blockchain Games Will Help Mass Adoption
Fun Fact: In 2018, the gaming industry was a $137.9 Billion industry! That includes game sales, in-game item purchases, item exchanges, offline game merchandise, and collectibles. Furthermore, it is expected to be a $180 Billion industry by 2021.
Blockchain game development is still in its early development. There are only a handful of games that you can play right now but there are many more game projects in development. View My Suggested Game List----->>> Here
1) Earn Real Money:
If you could make money to play video games, or by developing game items, wouldn't it make sense for you to do it? Blockchain video games will offer an important monetary incentive for gamers that is not currently available with traditional games. Some games will pay you a small amount of cryptocurrency for accomplishing specific achievements. Other games will allow you to create game items or characters and then sell them. All of this will help to keep gamers interested, build loyalty, and encourage a growing ecosystem. Why This Will Help Blockchain: When people can make money for playing games, it will entice more people to play them. More people playing these games means that blockchain game developers will have to improve their skills and provide better products. As developers continue to improve their skills with blockchain, the industry as a whole will mature as different sectors will be able to learn from new gaming developments.
2) Build Real Assets:
Blockchain games will allow you to create game items, or characters, that are stored securely on the blockchain. These items will be considered property. If the developer of the item only makes a limited amount of in desired items they can become a collector items, similar to baseball cards, signed memorabilia, rare coins, or beanie babies. The game Cryptokitties is a good example of how this works. Gamers bread and develop different kinds of kitties. Once these characters were created they could then be purchased and traded from other players. The highest amount someone paid for one of these digital assets was $114,481.59. This seems a bit crazy but imagine the possibilities for gamers if they could develop true assets that people are willing to pay for. In our current game environment people pay lots of money for items that will help characters "level up" or help advance progress in the game. The money paid for these items goes to the game developer, not the gamer. Imagine the paradigm shift that would happen if gamers had the opportunity to create their own assets. Why This Will Help Blockchain: Digital items can now be considered actual assets with true value connected to it. Owning these desirable digital assets could be the same as owning a piece of ocean front property. It is easy to see why more people would eventually migrate toward these types of games and bring more popularity to blockchain as a whole.
3) Interchangeability:
Imagine being able to trade real property, in a trusted way, between video games and also in the physical market. Games are in development which would allow for you to build a character, or game item, that could then be used in other games. Imagine if you are playing a war game and have a great character that you have developed. You may want to use that same character in another war game. Or maybe you like an item in one game and want to use it for your other game. It would be feasible to purchase the item and then transfer it from one blockchain game to another. Also, because this character, or item, may be considered an asset with value, it could also be sold in real life from person to person the same way you would buy a physical item now. Two parties would agree on a price and then sell the private key through an escrow exchange or specialized wallet. Why This Will Help Blockchain Every blockchain project has different coding styles and languages which are typically unable to communicate with each other. It would be the same as if someone who speaks English tries communicating with someone who speaks Spanish. In the blockchain community this is known as an atomic swap. Atomic swaps would be a huge advancement in the overall cryptocurrency space and allow more projects to partner together. Watch this video to understand atomic swaps better.
4) Improved Security:
Gamers, and game developers, have been struggling to deal with a massive increase in fraud. Account takeovers, content abuse, and bots that steal identities to make in app purchases are common place in the gaming world. Blockchain offers a new level of security against some of these attacks. Each gamer has their own identity tag which is coded specifically for them, and their game items are also coded with encrypted private keys. In order for transactions to be completed, all transactions need to be verified by each member of the blockchain community and therefore be proven valid. Why This Will Help Blockchain: A more secure gaming ecosystem also helps to prove that larger economic ecosystems, which are built on blockchain, can be trusted. Blockchain needs more real life uses to help prove it is worth for use in society. What better way to connect with society than through games which can be easily played in a more secure environment?
5) Easy and fun to learn: Would you rather learn something through studying books or playing a fun game? A game of course! The same is true of using blockchain and cryptocurrency. Games are a unique and easy way for people to learn about cryptocurrency. Gamers have been using digital types of game currency for years and they are already familiar with the concept. Introducing cryptocurrency into games requires very little education and can be seamlessly adopted by the gaming community.
Why This Will Help Blockchain: The average person in society doesn't understand cryptocurrency, and therefor have very little experience using it. For people who are not gamers, or who have never used digital money, it can seem confusing. On the other hand, kids who play games already understand digital money. For them, it is normal. As more kids grow up understanding cryptocurrency, it will smoothly transition into a more widely adopted money in society.
6) Solves Major Development Issues:
Game developers face all of the same problems that the overall blockchain industry faces. For example, slow transaction speeds, high transaction fees, and poor user experiences have made it difficult for blockchain to be completely adopted into the mainstream. As a result, developers are needing to find solutions which will better serve their customers. It is this kind of problem solving which will lead to major breakthroughs for blockchain. Why This Helps Blockchain Huge demand for new and improved games means that there is also a need for game technology to get better. Overcoming major developmental issues is exactly the kind of maturity that blockchain needs to go mainstream.
Conclusion:
Games offer a fun, easy way for blockchain to advance and be connected to the real world. Blockchain games will provide financial incentives and ownership for gamers which has never been possible before in gaming. In addition, the possibility of digital assets to be securely transacted across multiple blockchain gaming platforms opens up exciting possibilities across the blockchain industry. The advancement of blockchain gaming will also be a major step in advancement for the overall blockchain industry. Blockchain games are still early in their development and have many shortcomings, but it is exciting to see how both technologies will mature together. It will be exciting to see where it all leads in the near future. What better way to connect technology to the real world than through games?
